Position Battle #2 - TE

I thought our DB’s were shaky until I started looking into this debacle.  The Browns TE corps is lacking the almighty characteristic know as production.

Jordan Cameron 6’5” 245 – The project basketball player from USC is going to finally get to show his stuff.  Jordan sat behind Ben Watson the last 2 seasons and learned (we hope) what it takes to be an NFL TE.   Jordan definitely has the athletic ability that Norv and Chud desire at the position, the question is, can he be the go to guy?  Is he ready?

Kellen Davis – 6’6” 262 – I can’t claim this as fact because I can’t remember where I heard it from but rumor has it that Kellen’s nickname is “dick fingers”.  Now I don’t really know what that means, but I wanted to put it out there.  Kellen is your average blocking tight end that will occasionally catch the ball for you when he’s already lying on the ground.  Not much to see here folks.

Gary Barnidge 6’6” 247 – Is a 7th year player from Carolina who’s primarily played special teams in the past.  Gary has recorded 18 catches and 1 td in his career so I don’t expect him to battle too much for a “starting” role on the team unless there are a couple injuries.  Chud must like him though since he brought him over from Carolina.

Dan Gronkowski 6’5” 255 – There isn’t much to say about the guy.  He’s here if we need him because of injuries.  I would say he has better hands than Kellen or Gary but he lacks everything else.

The Browns only shot at getting any offensive stats out of the TE position lie within 3rd year player out of USC Jordan Cameron.  Chances are in Chud and Norv’s TE heavy offense Jordan should get the starting nod seeing how he’s the only TE on the team that can actually catch the ball.  I don’t see much of a battle here but the thing that will be interesting to watch is the progress that Jordan has made.

Position Battle #1 - CB

We all know Joe Haden is the top DB but who will be starting opposite him on opening day and who will be the starting nickel?

Buster Skrine 5’09” 185 – After what I saw last year, Buster scares me.  He has tons of talent but hasn’t shown that he can cover without being overly aggressive.  He cost us that game in Dallas and I can’t get over it.

Leon McFadden - 5’10” 193 - The 3rd round rookie out of San Diego St. has a real shot at becoming a starter for the Browns this season.  I don’t know if he will be ready to be thrust into that role by week 1 though, especially since he hasn’t signed a contract yet and is missing out on quality time.

Chris Owen - 5’9” 181– The Browns signed Chris from Atlanta this off season and he has mostly played the nickel corner.  Rumor has it that during mini-camp Chris showed up determined to win the spot opposite of Haden and has looked really good.  Chris could be the sleeper in this battle, watch out.

Trevin Wade - 5'11" 192 - Trevin could be a big surprise this preseason.  He plays bigger than he is and has the ability to cover the bigger receivers in the league.

Johnson Bademosi -6'0" 200 - I really liked watching him play last year.  His ability to rotate between Safety and Corner showed his flexibility. Will he be platooned at Safety because of the lack of depth or does he have a legit shot to play Corner?

This is going to be a fun battle to watch during training camp and the preseason games.  We have a plethora of young talented guys that want to prove their worth.
